This is a great novel, but is difficult-to-impossible to understand unless you've read at least the previous novel BLADE OF TYSHALLE, and preferably the first one as well, HEROES DIE. Both are superior novels, which doesn't take anything away from this one, the first two are simply change-your-life sublime. This novel is great for anyone who loves the first two books, and goes into it understanding that they'll need to read the fourth and final book CAINE'S LAW to really get any closure from this one. If you are willing to do that, then you shouldn't be disappointed here. If any of that criteria doesn't work for you, then you probably won't enjoy this so much. For me, this is my favorite book series of all time, and so I do not mind at all.
However, be warned, the Kindle version is absolute garbage. I own both hardcopy and Kindle versions, and the formatting in the Kindle version is just terrible. Two paragraphs will be joined together in some places, or one will be split apart. I own quite a few Kindle books, and I've never seen anything this atrocious. Worse, I've owned the Kindle version for several years now, and it's never been fixed. I'm not saying the book is unreadable in Kindle format, but it certainly is distracting at times. It's not an every page sort of thing, but it happens often enough to be annoying.
