This is the second book I’ve read by Deborah Lawrenson (the first being ‘The Sea Garden’) and I’ve learned my lesson. I’m now convinced I must completely clear my calendar before starting the third.
‘The Lantern’ weaves beautiful descriptive writing with page-turning suspense so perfectly I found myself up too late at night and ignoring deadlines in order to keep reading. Just as I settled into the gorgeous scenery and lifestyle of Provence, a zinger of a line reminded me I was in the middle of a gripping, spooky, murder mystery. The sights, smells, and tastes of the setting are so eloquently portrayed I have no choice but to visit the area soon. While reading, I highlighted more sections than I can count to remind myself as a writer how it should be done. Thank you, Ms. Lawrenson, for another wonderful tale.
