What do you do when you lose the love of your life to death? It is a heart-wrenching blow to the gut when you lose a spouse, especially when you are young. This is an excellent tool for those in the throws of grief. This book is written, not from the perspective of a clinical counselor or psychologist, it is written from the perspective of one who has walked in the shoes of a widow who lost her pastor husband to cancer. It gives you quality advice from a biblical perspective. I highly recommend this to any widow or widower.
someone recommended this book to me after my husband died (at age 56.) it has short chapters, (which is about all one can handle when grieving) filled w/scripture that is both comforting and meaningful. it is not "over the top" religious. the author, herself a widow, manages to take the reader on a logical and chronological path (with regard to the grief process.) also of note, at the end of the book, there's a financial guideline, with space to make "fill in the blank" entries, to help keep track of assets/liabilities and general household information....so this book is not only a comfort to read but also a practical guide.
When our lives have been shattered by the death of a spouse, we desperately need the wisdom, support and hope that Inside the Broken Heart offers. Ms. Yarbrough, who has lived the experience, immediately forms a deep bond with her readers. Her description of grief as a journey resonates with those who grieve amid a sense of lostness and disorientation. In short chapters designed for stressed minds, she guides through the onslaught of seemingly untamable emotions, moving towards the reality of healing and hope. Each chapter is based solidly on Scripture and the writer's abiding faith in God's strength and unending love. Questions and suggested worksheets help personalize a wealth of insightful material. A powerful surprise and bonus is the audio version of the book which is included in the purchase price. Listening to Ms. Yarbrough speak from Inside the Broken Heart is like sitting with a friend who offers hope and a path toward new life! (The last page of the book provides easy to follow instructions for audio download to computer, CD or various listening devices.) This is an extraordinary book, designed to be read, reread, and shared with others who grieve!
This was the first book I read of Julie Yarbrough's resources on Grief. It gives a good general overview of the grief process based on the author's own painful journey, her biblical knowledge and understanding, and her own dependent relationship with Jesus, her Guide, Comforter and Constant Companion.
This book seemed to deal with every issue I have had since the sudden loss of my husband - emotionally, spiritually, and practically. By the time I was able to read again, this book was perfect for my circumstances.
