I have read many books of this type over the past three decades and Liberating The Adult Within is the best I have ever found. Helen Kramer, the author, writes clearly and provides great examples to illustrate her advice. She is the first person I found who dispelled the myths of codependency and shame. Christine Meinecke, Ph.D. did the same thing in her book written in 2012, but Helen wrote her book way back in 1995. Helen gives adults the tools to recognize the problems they encounter in everyday life. These tools really work to solve those problems, providing people are willing to look at themselves honestly and apply themselves to creating a healthier approach to living as an adult. Child-like emotions become understandable and malleable, allowing a people to grow towards mastery in life. There are plenty of Ah-ha! moments where the light bulb clicks on inside this book. It will change your life!
My teenage son's puerile behaviour is becoming an increasing cause for concern and so I bought this superb guide for him. He would have seen sound advice rendered in easily readable form and top tips for achieving maturity had he read it rather than covering it with crass drawings of male genitals.
If you or someone you know wants to get free of those childhood whimpers, read and heed this book. Smart, practical and doable - parents should give it to their adult children who are still moaning about their childhood.
