Chuck Hogan is a rock star (in writing terms) I read the Strain and was immediately taken with his writing style. This was the next book I read and I am an instant Hogan fan.
This book was not just about a war veteran trying to find himself in peace time again, but about how we view ourselves, what we want ourselves to be and what we are willing to do to get them. There is a deeper core examined here than just bad guys vs good guys. Hogan writes action very well. He paints his characters very well. I don't think anything is a great mystery as it is just a dam good read. He writes in a very linear way. You see everything unfold the way you might in a movie. That means his books are streamlined, quick, easy to get through and exciting. I love it.
I don't know enough about guns, military life etc to know if all of that were accurate, but I know that his characters were so well drawn that it didn't make a difference to me. (that might not be true for all)
Hogan - you rock!
