This second book in the series concentrates on the romance of another couple from the first book as the main characters continue hunting for a ruthless killer. Other characters return as well thankfully: Grit, Myrtle and the precocious son of the Vice President. Carla Neggers creates such realistic people that I immediately picture them and become a bit attached to them. I'm looking forward to the third book.
I enoyed this book. I have read almost all of Carla Neggers' books. I have to say, though, that after a while they all seem like the same thing. You know how it's going to end before it even starts. However, that's how all romance books are. The plot seems to be jumping from book to book, though, and it seems to spend more time than needed updating you from the old books. And it's a bit annoying how all the main characters seem to have these incredible far fetched occupations. All in all, I liked it and would say all Carla Neggers fans will like the book.
The saga continues. Even though the book could stand alone it's much better if you've read the first two. I can't say enough about this series. Im reading it for the 3rd time. It has a lot of action and conflicts but the family sticks together. Hope you enjoy the series as much as I have.
This was a major miss for Neggers. Much of the book was a poorly recycled version of its prequel (which wasn't very strong in the first place). I started skimming through the book after I realized this (really, after I got tired of it) just trying to follow Hannah and Sean. When they finally did connect, it was bland and passionless. Did Neggers really feel it necessary to remind us that Jo was a Secret Service Agent over and over? She was a kick-ass secret service agent, she gave people her special secret service agent look...she was a secret service agent. On and on. And Myrtle and her special colored eyes. Dripping with repetition over insignificant details. I wanted to grab a red pen!!! WHAT HAPPENED!? :-(

I've enjoyed the Black Falls series & this was no exception. The characters & dialog are entertaining. As the mother of a Marine & the sister of two firefighters, one of whom is a former Air Force Staff Sergeant & paramedic, the storyline definitely keeps my attention. As a retriever owner, I love the relationship between Rose & Ranger.
Unlike some reviewers I had read the first book in the series. I thought this book was a great sequel. The characters are complex and the story is full of twists and turns and the romance is just right. What more could you ask for?
