Clumsy editing took away from this otherwise excellent story. The quirky characters are unique, well-defined, and likeable. The settings are vividly described, and the story grabbed me at page one and kept me turning pages to the satisfying conclusion. I don't usually bother trying to figure out mysteries as I read, but this one had me guessing all the way through. If you can overlook some misspellings and punctuation errors (and some sentences in the first chapter that seem to have been placed in the wrong paragraph), this book is definitely worth reading.
I've been looking for another good mystery/suspense author that has a number of books out there, and I just found one. I loved this mystery and the characters. Good twists and turns without graphic violence, sex, or body count that so many think they must have to make their books interesting these days. Instead the story relied on good writing, the characters and the plot! My! What innovation. :) Can't wait to read the next one.
I read Steal Away while on vacation which was fortunate as I had a hard time putting it down! Trying to piece together the clues kept me wanting to "steal away" from vacation activities to read some more! It was interesting to read about Ellen's escape from a very real and entitled life and how that was accomplished over so many years! As a native New Englander, it was interesting to read the author's description of the Maine coast as it conjured vivid images of the setting of the story.
Very good book without many surprising turns. I like how the characters turn out to be something completely different than when they first enter the story. i highly recommend this book if you like Mysteries.
Linda Hall's Steal Away is just the right kind of book to curl up with on a rainy afternoon. It offers an interesting plot that takes a number of twists and turns and isn't predictable, a main character you'd like to be friends with and good writing, a combination that doesn't always come together as well as it did in this book. A page turning mystery you won't want to put down until it is finished. I would certainly read another of Linda Hall's books and recommend her to my friends.
I really enjoyed this book, it has all of the elements of a great story. You will find fully developed characters, people you can relate to. A little romance, a lot of mystery, hope, redemption and mercy. I will be looking for more books by this author.
