3.0 out of 5 starsDon't read it out of nostalgia for the original sisterhood.

I bought this book because I loved the original sisterhood so much. If that's your expectation, don't bother. The story was good, but I wouldn't buy it again. The girls were too young for me to relate to (entering their freshman year in high school) and while there were references to the original characters, it just didn't work the way I thought it should. I feel like the story could stand on its own and be targeted at young adult readers. But people reading it out of nostalgia for the original...don't. Take the book as a stand-alone and you'll probably enjoy it more than I did!
This book was good, not nearly as good as the Sisterhood books, but still good. I enjoyed the read, and I look forward to reading more in the series. Anne Brashares is a great author, and I love the way she puts so much focus on friendships...alot of that is missing between girls today. Granted, I'm not the target audience for this book (I'm 23) but I still found it enjoyable and I would recommend it for any fans of Anne Brashares, tweens, & teens.

This may have more to with being older than the target audience. I liked it, the characters were complex, but I don't think any of them were explored as deeply as they needed to be, everyone sort of just floated through the story. I hope there are more books which will examine the girls more.
Several years ago I read "Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants" with my oldest granddaughter. Each time a new one came out, we read it together. Now I have another granddaughter, younger than the oldest one was at the beginning, and the new Sisterhood will be perfect for her for now! Thanks!
The binding and the jacket were pretty beat up. It didn't affect the read, but I'm glad it wasn't for a gift. I wouldn't have wanted to give it as a gift since the condition was no where near like new.
