This is book two in the continuing saga of these women and their families. People are not always as they seem to be. Those "perfect" families have their problems behind closed doors. The author brings an element of reality to the characters when she she takes a chapter to get to know each of the characters and their families. None of are perfect. The nice thing is they all ultimately work together to survive adversity. This is a comfortable book to read with a few tears of sadness as well as happiness sprinkled throughout.
Can't get enough of this series! Elm Creek Quilt Series blends fascinating historical fiction with intricacies of women's issues and interpersonal relationships as the characters work through their life issues. Chiaverini is an excellent writer with a seemingly endless fount of inspiration.
The character are beautifully drawn. They come alive with depth and character as they face their challengers. I was spellbound throughout the story. The elm street quilters have become my friends and I feel like I care about them.
This book was recommended to me by a group of quilters. They were right. It was truly delightful to read about this community of women who love to quilt. Their personal stories cover many demographics including the mother of teenaged sons, a wife who is unsure of the fidelity of her husband, a young woman who is just finishing college and searching for her future, and an older woman who has suffered loss and wants to guide her younger friends to mend their family relationships. There is conflict and there is love. A great mix. And of course, there is quilting.
I have just started reading this series. The first book gives a good background to some of the characters & I highly recommend reading it before this one. This book (#2) gave more background on the main characters....and what a diverse, interesting background they have! I am currently reading book #3, but so far, book #2 was the most "exciting". Great stories!! I don't quilt so the patterns they talk about are unknown to me...but the characters are wonderful!!!
I enjoyed the book and will continue to read the Elm Creek Quilts series. The stories are not thrillers or extreme in any way but the author drew me through character development, some conflicts that needed resolution, and the ups and downs of life. There are heartfelt situations without too much drama and so far, there has been nothing in her books that would be objectionable to me (coarse language or behavior of the characters.) Thanks to Ms. Chiaverini for novels that are engaging and fun to read!
I read a lot of books, but at bedtime I prefer something light and easy. This fits that category, but not a book I pick up during the day. This book fills the bill for going off to sleep pleasantly. It a bit bit of fluff, but well written and interest plots. If this is the type of book you read, it is pretty good.
I loved the first book in this series and this book is also a great story...my only complaint was in this book she used some profanity...once using God's name in vain and I did take offence to that...it was not necessary.....only a couple other times was profanity used, but I don't like seeing it in any books that I select to read....I am now reading the third one in this series and so far no profanity...hope that continues as I do like reading her books.
