4.0 out of 5 stars An intriguing story that was really hard to put down.

It has all the ingredients for a compelling story: fascinating characters, an unpredictable plot that does not depend on the characters doing stuff for the story line. I plan to read more by John Lutz.

Interesting mix of stereo-typical characters and some not so much. Interesting plot twists. Satisfying conclusion.

4.0 out of 5 stars John Lutz

I just started reading this series of Lutz books and am 30% thru the 3rd one (Kiss). I have read all his books with Quinn as the main PI. I will continue reading the Fred Carver series. Even though I like Quinn better, Fred is growing on me and as I finish one book I order the next. Will continue to do so until I have read them all. Great Author!

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable Detective Mystery

This is a very enjoyable detective mystery and the first book I have read by John Lutz.

The story and characters were interesting and the writing style made it an easy read. The only ding I would give it is that some of the details unwinding the mystery are spoon-fed near the end in an all-too-convenient fashion.

I look forward to reading through the whole ten book series of Fred Carver mysteries which I picked up at a recent Kindle book sale for $1.99 each!

Appended to the end of the book is an endearing biography of the author including photos beginning from childhood and noteworthy achievements. Clearly, this is an author who thoroughly enjoys his craft.

4.0 out of 5 stars GOOD BOOK ONE OF SERIES

I am a big fan of John Lutz. I read the Quinn series and the Night series so I thought I would jump back to the 1986 book TROPICAL HEAT, book one of the Fred Carver series. It is a good first book, sets up PI Fred Carver, former Orlando cop on early retirement from a bullet to the knee. Carver now uses a cane, different for a detective hero. This case envolves a missing person and ends up with murders and of course greed. A little slow in places but again a good first book that makes you want to go to book two. RECOMMENDED

Great series, I had read John Lutz's newer books but never this series. Although the technology is a little dated, it doesn't take away from the story line. I immediately purchased the next in the series after I read this.
