5.0 out of 5 starsTake a step into Christmas Past

The novel "Ethan Fromme" paints a bleak picture of life in a wintry landscape. But Alcott finds joy, hope, optimism, and redemption in the same harsh conditions. The secret is in the characters' love for each other, and in their security in their place in the world. I enjoyed this account of a festive holiday in days of yore. If you like a peek into the Yuletide via Irving or Dickens, I think you'll want to add this to your holiday collection.
I am a true fan of Louisa May Alcott. I have read all of her work and though old fashioned, they are all still beautiful stories. This one did not disappoint. I read it many years ago and enjoyed it all over again.

A sweet old fashioned tale of love and contentment. Friends share a Christmas with country cousins who seem old fashioned and rustic to elegant city dwellers. Soon it emerges that it life is frivolous, with parties 'til dawn, and leads to nothing solid and healthy for heart or body. Whilst in the country city folk learn of true love, friendship, hard work and good rest. They hear tales from M the civil war and learn a great deal about life from their country bumpkin relatives. Sweet and perfect for Christmas. A delightful tale, which can be read in less than an hour. Ladies and children, enjoy.
