This book begins with chapter 0. Way too convoluted and rambling! But then it packs a punch with some lovely discussion on the meatier issues facing the Church today. Clearly McLaren has done wider research and is current on a number of discussion points. But, (and he uses parenthesis a lot. Just like I am, to show what it's like actually reading the book) with a subtitle this long one is going to run out of steam. Some points feel like they overlap a bit. Others have been a little too deconstructed. I got the feeling that the point had been well made halfway through the book. The push to the end was thus a little forced, for me.
Nevertheless, a very good contribution to the discussion of the emerging Church that is meant to be always reforming. The call to generosity seems to be about balance between right thought and right practice. With mercy.
