COMING OFF OF READING ALL THE PD JAMES MYSTERIES - AND ENJOYING ALL ASPECTS OF THEM! - I WAS CASTING ABOUT FOR A SUBSTITUTE AND AFTER TRYING 'MORSE' AND DOROTHY SAYERS, I HAVE LANDED ON RUTH RENDELL AND HAVE ENJOYED ALL THE BOOKS I AM READING. I LIKE TO AND HAVE BEGUN W/ HER FIRST AND AM READING THEM CONSECUTIVELY. I LIKE THE MAIN CHARACTER, INSPECTOR WEXFORD AND THE OTHER ATTRACTIVE, INTERESTING MAIN CHARACTERS; HER PLOT STYLE; THE LOVELY BRIT SETTINGS: MY CUP OF TEA!
As usual, Rendell entertains us with one of her complex mysteries which leaves the reader struggling hopelessly to figure out " who done it." In addition, however, she portrays the devastating physical and psychological impact caused by the loss of sexual gratification. This combination makes for a wonderful read.
Well this book had me very worried I was afraid Burton would leave wexford and then how would we go on.The ending was a great. Surprised but then most of her books are and I really like that .I am really forward to the next book and now have my husband reading them too
I am a Rendell fan - she has a grasp of human behaviour - sometimes quite dark - I enjoy seeing if I can pick 'who dunnit" Wexford is prone to human failings which is refreshing in a hero. Even Burden slips up in this one
