Curwood writes great old fashioned G rated stories of the Canadian wilderness in the early twentieth century. Sappy but entertaining. A good read.

This book was a great lark with drama, danger and detail, emotions of hate, love, fear and humor, danger, lush nature, ice and storm and devastation by fire. Through many twists and turns, love wins out.

Curwood's tales of wilderness adventure are both detective suspense and love stories. In this one the hunter and the hunted make unexpected choices that leave the reader unable to guess the final outcome. Also provides a look into the faithfulness and complete loyalty of dog to master. In the bleakness. starkness and unexpectedness of the wilderness environment, enjoyment of life is found in the context of community. Certainly with a companion and friends, human and animal life can be beautiful anywhere.
