4.0 out of 5 stars I liked this book - and would read it again - although it's not one of my favorites

As I was reading this book, I read somewhere that these are Janette Oke's children's books. I was kind of surprised at that. I had a difficult time believing this story; however, I still found pieces of common sense and faith which help me with my thoughts. I liked the characters, and figured that in those days one didn't just pick up and move without a lot of trouble. Maybe I had trouble with it since I've moved so many times in my life (military, job changes, etc,) and because we are such a mobile society in general. I enjoyed the book, just not as much as Janette's other books. (I feel I have to mention again that the author comes across as a friend now that I've read so many of her books, so I am comfortable referring to her as Janette. Thank you Janette!)

5.0 out of 5 stars Another excellent story about the strength of a woman, family and god

This is another excellent story about the strength of a woman, the love she has for her husband and family and her faith in God. Working together to make a good life in this rough world. If you really look at it nothing has really changed in all these years. Just the volume and style of things. We still struggle to make sense of people we encounter, their decisions and why they have chosen to abandon God as important to their lives. I fear for this coming generation.

3.0 out of 5 stars Letdown

It took quite a bit to get into this book. Not at all typical Jeanette oke style. I found it kind or boring and probably won’t ever read again. I bought it to complete the series and I’ve always loved Jeanette oke books. 3 stars because the writing is good but the plot was a bit boring. But I was glad to find out nobody was being conceited but wow took 2 years or was it three, to discover it? These spouses hardly spoke.

Janette Oke's has a lovely style of writing. Each of her books keep your interest throughout. They have a vein of inspiring faith intertwined with an unfolding adventure. You quickly become both intrigued and engrossed in her characters and their lives. The story unfolds beautifully and holds just enough element of suspense to keep you wondering what will happen next and what the conclusion will be.

5.0 out of 5 stars Julia's Last Hope (Women of the West Book # 2)

Although, I was disappointed at how the first e-book # 1 ended, and it did end well, just ended too soon. It was still a very good read and so was this book. Even though there was some sadness in the last chapter of each of them, they both ended on a good note. I look forward to reading all her Christian e-books. She's a very good Christian writer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book

I love Janette Oke's books - this is quite a different story to Book 1, so it isn't a follow-on story like some of her other works. Janette has a gret writing style and incorporate's her Christian message into her writing without it being preachy or pushy which I think is a great talent. This book is very interesting, not too long and contains a life lesson, as do most of her works which I have read. I'm not American but I do love reading about the Pioneers who founded America and the sort of real lives they lived, not the rubbish we often see on TV nowadays. If you want wholesome, Christian teachings then these are the perfect books for you.

I've just newly discovered Christian Fiction and this book has been a beautiful example of it. Great storytelling with twists and turns and lovely examples of how the characters deal with situations we all face every day. Highly recommend Janette's books.
