I loved this book. In fact, it was my favorite of the series. Anna Belfrage has quickly become one of my favorite historical fiction writers, right up there with Elizabeth Chadwick. She brings the time period to blazing life. I couldn't put this book down! The continuing relationship between Adam and Kit was well done as usual, but what really had me turning pages was Adam's divided loyalties. The author handled it with such depth and sensitivity that I really felt for Adam, especially at the end. I was nearly in tears! I also really like the growing importance to the story of King Edward and Queen Philippa. It was fun to see them grow into their titles.
One of the aspects of her books that I like is that Adam and Kit are believable characters for their time period. They are both wonderful and yet are still bound by the strictures of their society.
Even though she wrapped up the story nicely, the author teased that this might not be the end of Adam and Kit. I would love to see what might develop with Adam and Kind Edward. She also hinted at another historical series, which I sincerely hope she does. I will definitely buy anything Anna Belfrage writes.
