This is one of the best and fun (entertaining) leadership development books that I have read so far! What really makes this book stand out is how the author, Scott Miller, is not afraid to share his leadership messes (mistakes) that helped him realize the importance of the leadership principle or practice. From there, he shares what he did to fix the mess and then provides us with some reflection and practices/challenges to develop our own leadership. It is a very easy read and is organized to be a 1 a day/ 30 day read. Each mess with accompanying principle or practice is anywhere from 2-5 pages, making it easy to read while on vacation, 5 minutes before work, or 5 minutes before going to bed. After having read it, my next plan is to read one challenge at the beginning of each week and focus on developing that one challenge for the week. I look forward to reflecting on my progress in 30 weeks! It is a breath of fresh air to have something so real out there.

I love Scott's invitation to get authentic about my leadership "messes" AND then to practice new behaviors to ensure that I don't keep repeating painful moments. Scott's candor in sharing his messes made me feel less alone on my leadership journey. His practical ideas to get better can and should be used repeatedly. After all, it's pretty tough to unleash the unique talent people bring to the workplace if you are busy cleaning up messes that are turning them off. A helpful guide to get me back on the path when needed.
I work in the non profit sector and wasn’t sure all of the principles in Scott Jeffrey Miller’s book would apply to the type of work I do but all 30 of the principles reasonated with me! I’m excited to work on my ‘messes’ and tackle each one to make them successes. If you need a roadmap to becoming a better leader, this is it! And if you have the chance to hear him speak live, you won’t regret it! Mr. Miller is as dynamic as he is enthusiastic about helping you learn from his messes.
Since my days of working in New York City, part of my side-hustle has been perusing entrepreneur, self-help, and leadership books and this one surprised me. It wasn't too long, too boring, or too full of itself. Scott Miller has written a vivid, funny, and masterful plan for real life messes...those awkward, heated, sometimes lonely and questionable moments that leave most of us asking, "why me, what happened, or what now?" (He kinda knows!) I enjoyed the precision, the action steps, and the humor. I most of all enjoyed his last chapter where he writes, "Take risks. Produce your own podcast, host your own internal company conference, write your own damn article, stop watching Ted Talks and record your own instead. Get out there and rebrand yourself...." Scott Miller seems poised to keep telling true-life, behind-the-scenes tales that make us feel instantly human AND hopeful.

This is one of the best books I have read...Scott keeps your attention and makes you want to keep reading...Not a dull moment in this book.. If I wasn’t retired and was the head of a company, all of my employees would have a copy of this on their desk....Many corporations hire companies to come in and motivate their people, all they need is this book.....Scott is not an arrogant “know it all”.... He just gives you the keys to what helped him and could help anyone have a better life...GREAT READ !!!!!!

Scott Miller's new book on turning management messes into successes is the street smart manager's bible. I was not groomed to be a leader throughout my 25+ professional career - so much of it started with the best intentions and trial and error. This book speaks my language and I wish I had it 20 years ago. It offers real, straightforward solutions to leadership issues we all face and Scott's writing style is humorous, self-deprecating, and practical.

Try using this book like a day timer. You may at the end of thirty days “Get Better” and feel better. This is a coaching book with practical exercises which may be stronger currency than theory. It is as well humorous in the personal reflections of the author. It is worth more than one read.

Somewhat disappointing, as not an end-to-end crafted guide but just a collection of useful tips, mostly anecdote based and very short. Some of them still useful, but also a lot of recycled material
