5.0 out of 5 stars A Delightful Solution To A Murder!

It feels like forever since I was able to read the current new release from the Scottish Bookshop Mysteries. I was thrilled with the story, writing, and characters.

Not only did the Characters feel as though I had just read book #3, I instantly remembered all the story lines and where they had ended. It had been a year. With all the books I read, this was amazing to me.

So, if you find yourself liking murder mysteries, a setting in Scotland, tales of Nessie (of the Loch Ness fame,) or King Arthur's tale of the Round table, you will love this novel. If you are attracted by gentle romance, weddings, Cowboys from Texas, and families from Kansas, you will love this novel.

Ms. Shelton has really outdone herself and I'm not counting the days until, hopefully, I get to read book number five! This really should have been given ten stars, in my opinion. I Loved it!

There's never too short a time between 'A Scottish Bookshop Mystery' stories. From the very first book I wanted to be Delaney Nichols. The idea of moving to Scotland for a job in a bookshop (my favourite place to be) just seems so right. I've been to Loch Ness and would love to go back for more than a few hours. (sigh)
Delaney is getting married to her pub owner fiance. As she anticipates reuniting with her family, dress fittings & having to find another minister to marry them, work & intrigue still abound in The Cracked Spine. On her way to meet Nisa, her future FIL, Artair's minister, she literally bumps into Norval Fraser. Thus, Delany & both her Scottish & birth families find themselves caught up in Norval's lifelong obsession with Nessie to prove the monster exists & took his father. When Norval's great-nephew is murdered & he's arrested for the crime, Delany is determined to prove him innocent. Further distracting her from her wedding is Angus Murdoch, a bigger than life Texan who brings a priceless edition book of King Arthur, claiming his grandfather stole it 20 years ago from the bookshop. Edwin doesn't remember the book of the grandfather. Is Nessie real? Why was Norval's brand-new the one murdered? Delaney will need all her wits to solve these mysteries before her big day.

4.0 out of 5 stars Loch Ness Monster Gets Booked in this Cozy

This was a multi faceted mystery, one mystery was about a murder, another about a long ago disappearance, another about the Loch Ness monster, guess which one was more interesting! The true star of this cozy was Nessie, I never believed in the Loch Ness monster figuring it was folklore but after reading this book I am not so sure! If you like books set in Scotland, featuring bookstores with quirky Scottish burrs dialogue you will really enjoy this fantastical mystery. To anchor it somewhat to reality it also feature an upcoming wedding, problems with the wedding dress, meeting the in-laws moments and vetting the venue. Other than that it is a mystery inside a mystery inside a mystery.

This series about mid-western Kansas transplant Delaney Nichols who moves to Edinburgh to live her dream and finds it all come mostly true in this latest book; she is about to be married to a wonderful guy, her job is perfect, and her circle of friends are tight. But in the slightly fey ways of Scottish mysteries, she meets an old eccentric who is an expert on Nessie and who she instantly bonds with, and who later needs her help since he is the chief suspect in a murder. There is another mystery surronding an extremely valuable and rare book about King Arthur and an over the top Texan and a secretive pastor who keep the plot intriguing. When Delaney's family arrive for the wedding this sets up the tug of war between her personal life and sleuthing.

The story is interesting, lots of detail about Nessie and the allure of her myth, and clues that appear and disappear as more compelling possiblities take their place. It all culminates in a truly incredible ending with real suspense and a satisfying explanation for all the mysteries. Cleverly plotted and warmly written its as satisfying as a tot of Scottish whiskey on a cold and windy night!

I became a fan of Paige Shelton's Scottish Bookshop Mysteries right from the start. The characters in each story have become familiar friends. The vivid descriptions of Edinburgh and smaller towns not to mention the images of the bookshop and all it contains make me feel as if I were right there with the characters. I want to hop on the next plane and joiin them in their adventures! My only hope is this is far from the last in the series.

I wasn't a fan of the first book "The Cracked Spine" and hadn't read any of the others in this series until I came across "The Loch Ness Papers." As long as I can remember I've found the legend of the Loch Ness monster fascinating, so I took a chance and bought this. It was much better than the first in the series I read, but that may be because the characters were established at this point. Well-written and entertaining, but there were a couple of minor issues, which are strictly mine and might not bother others and is why I'm still giving this five stars. I did not care for the cowboy character. He wasn't believable and detracted from the story. I would also have liked to have seen more interaction with her family.

Every time I read one of the novels in this series I get the urge to visit Scotland and see the sights and wonderful people - Paige Shelton has a way with words that brings to life the place, characters, and events and make you feel a part of it all - the mystery was fascinating and I had no clue who the murderer was or why he would have done such a thing even after Delaney and the whole gang went hot footing it up to Ava's cottage until the gun in his jeans was mentioned - the author throws so many possible suspects, scenarios, and events at you that you become entrenched with the theories yourself - loved this nove!

As far as I'm concerned, Paige Shelton can do no wrong. I love the Scottish Bookshop series, and this book does not disappoint. The whole Nessie legend is riveting, and Ms Shelton captures the air of mystery and the longing for an answer that inhabits many Scots. As usual the book is well written, the plot very interesting and the characters real people whom one would like to meet.
