I enjoyed this book very much. The author intended it to be geared toward women, which I did not realize when I bought it. You would think the lady on the cover and 'goddess' in the name would have tipped me off, but I'm a tad slow sometimes. ;-) I got it because I am a male devoted to the mother goddess and am also looking to face all my inner darkness at the deepest level. So this book looked perfect for me. Once I began reading and the author indicated it was written for women, I thought "Oh well", and read it anyway. I figured it couldn't make that big of a difference with a spiritual/mystical book. So I ready on. And I was right. It suited me just fine, and I found it very helpful.
I am not interested in doing all of the individual rituals and practices contained in the book, except for the core rituals themselves: that of the descent and ascent of Inanna, as well as listening to the dark goddess while in the underworld. Jane explained how many readers of this book may have already been in the underworld for many years when coming to this book, and so the only thing left for them is to find where they are in their descent, and complete the journey. I am one of those. I was able to follow the map of Inanna's descent and realize where I am in the process. This is extremely helpful to me! I can now complete the death process and begin my ascent!
