2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed

I am a fan of Amy, but this book was disappointing.
#Spoiler alert
I intensely disliked the female character. I found Hannah to be pathetic and immature. How many times can a person murmur: I don't know and I am sorry, over and over again? That is about all that came across.
For 30+ year old she acted childish and selfish. She is a terrible mother who never communicates with her son, confusing him and she did not bother to ever engage enough with him to ask about his feelings.
And this thing about her allowing Aaron to get his hopes up is again selfish and cruel. She lied constantly - to her father, her family, Aaron, and then she felt sorry for herself, and said: I just don't know and I am sorry. Sorry. So sorry. (I am rolling my eyes.)
I felt no empathy. I wanted to say: GROW UP, ALREADY!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Unexpected, unrefined

I have thouroughly enjoyed Lillard's other two Amish series. Interesting plot, amazing characters and just enough conflict/tension to keep you reading. I did not feel the characters in this book were well developed and the plot dragged for chapters. I personally did not like Hannah much. She never said anything of much value and even her thoughts, perspective, was guarded until the very last couple of chapters. I understand that this was supposed to be her character, but it came across as very shallow. She was very predictable. I wasn't able to connect to her or her relationships with family or her first love. This book seemed to be in rough draft form, un"finished" or unrefined. I enjoyed the premise, but the plot needed work. Not the level of writing I expected from Lillard. I will read again in hopes that my opinion changes.

This book kept me wondering what Hannah was going to do. Thinking her son was keeping her from marrying her true love made for some interesting situations. I hope there is a second part to this story, I could not out this one down.

I love how determination, love, sweat and tears intertwine together, evolve emotions, and awaken in prayers. Amy has a gift and so happy she shares that gift with we, her loyal fans.
