5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent story where the focus is on more than the romance

Disclaimer: I am acquaintances with the author; however, I purchased this ebook for full price.

As a military spouse, I never really saw the appeal of romance fiction featuring a military (or former military) hero. I know too much about the realities of military life to have any desire to romanticize it, but I’ve known Burrows through our extended writer networks for a few years and wanted to check out her work.

Outside of the romance genre, my interests include competent characters and team-as-family (especially when I get to see the team being built and all the conflict that goes along with that process). One way Burrows bucks genre expectations here is that we get to see points of view from characters other than the hero, heroine, and antagonists, and I’m already looking forward to seeing each of these men get their happily ever afters.

I also love the depth of character that each of the men possess. Burrows allows them to be dramatic and emotional within the context of the story, which makes them well-rounded and interesting rather than two-dimensional stock characters.

Burrows also doesn’t skimp on plot, which becomes both essential to the developing relationship and stands alone as an interesting read. The twist at the end also cemented it as a solid piece of story-telling. I still don’t have much desire to read military romance, but I’m absolutely going to finish this delightful series.

5.0 out of 5 stars AWESOME BOOK

I Loved everything about this book! Gabe and Quinn, both out of the SEALS because of injuries from a car accident, and the ragtag group of men they assemble for their new Rescue team. Every member of this group in a unique character unto himself - can't wait to get my hands on their stories! The rescue mission - to get to the kidnapped wealthy American businessman before the ransom is paid and the rebels kill him. And then there was Audrey, sister of the kidnap victim, off to Colombia to help rescue her brother. Loved she was a strong determined woman and a match for any Seal! Story sizzles with the sexual chemistry and tension between her and Gabe and a wonderful love story evolves around the action packed roller coaster ride to mission accomplished. Just when you think you have it all figured out WHAM another situation presents itself! Liked the interaction with the FBI negotiator and hoping he'll make a career change! I could not put this book down! I definitely want to go visit Costa Rica and swim with the dolphins! SEAL of Honor has already been given a spot on my KEEPER shelf. I am so glad I found Tonya Burrows and got in on the ground floor of this outstanding HORNET series! Highly recommend to anyone who loves romantic suspense!

3.0 out of 5 stars Okay military romance

I have been in the mood for military romances lately, and I’ve been on the hunt for a really good one. I had some hopes that this one would be pretty good. It did have some things I liked about the book but mostly I just felt like it was kinda meh.
So the thing I liked the best about the book was that the storyline did have some promise. I like the idea of a private security team doing hostage recovery. I liked that it was a new team so that it gave me the chance to get to know the difference characters at the same time as our hero Gabe got to know them.
I did have okay feelings about Gabe. He’s a stand up guy, feeling a little lost after being let go from the military after a serious injury to his leg. Figuring out how to change your life plans and adjust to his new role was never going to be easy but I thought he did a pretty good job throughout the book. Honestly the thing I judged him the most about was his taste in woman. Audrey.
Audrey is our heroine. And I hated her. Not at first mind you. Her brother is kidnapped, she wants to help find him. All totally understandable. And then I go off the rails. She was annoying from almost the start. She forces herself onto the team basically even knowing that her presence was going to make it harder for the team to get her brother back because they would have to focus on keeping her safe. She helps convince them to take her on by telling them she could shoot a gun, only she refuses to use it and doesn’t believe in violence. That’s right throughout the book she gets all huffy about wanting to just talk to the good old human trafficker and trust him to help her brother. Or to tell people about the situation, even though it makes her a target and puts everyone at risk. I mean she really is too stupid to live in several situations (the author even says at one point that she doesn’t want to be one of those girls who are too stupid to live). I couldn’t handle this girl. I really didn’t think the chemistry between them was good enough to get over how annoying she was to begin with. Overall I really wasn’t impressed and probably won’t be continuing on with the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exactly as described by the blurb

Decent plot line. Good character development. There were occasions when it became a little too much tell and not enough show, but that eventually evened itself out. The additional characters are believable and endearing. I will be purchasing the next book in this series. There are some sex scenes each of them appropriate and loving. There are no potential triggers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gets my seal of approval

Throw together a couple of ex-Navy SEAL's, and ex-FBI Negotiator, an explosives expert, a linguist who likes the ladies, a tighty-whitey wearing ex-CIA computer geek and a Stetson-wearing medic, add a hostage, his flighty sister, suspense, action, a bit of blood and gore, arguments and of course some steamy-romance and you have a book that I loved, devoured and has left me wanting more from these men!

Gabe Bristow is said ex-Navy SEAL and a complex man. Aside from the fact that he is to tact and diplomacy what I am to ballet dancing (trust me, I am no ballerina), he is intelligent, protective, a natural leader, fearless and yes, he is exceptionally delectable in that rough and ready 'Me Tarzan, you Jane' kind of way. When US billionaire businessman Bryson Van Amee is taken hostage, Gabe leads the guys unofficially drafted in to rescue him. Only Bryson's sister Audrey is on the scene and she is one determined, strong-willed, stubborn lady with a knack of trying to take matters into her own hands...

It never lets up and Tonya Burrows has struck gold. There is so much happening, yet it flows perfectly. Whilst at first I wondered if there were a few too many characters, once I became acquainted with them, their quirks and traits, every single person is needed and plays an important part.

I laughed, I swooned, I sighed, winced, whooped and irritated my husband with all of the above (the husband who has now decided he is going to read it for himself when I told him it has guns, women and explosions in it). It is a fabulous, well written rollercoaster of a read that I wouldn't hesitate to recommend. I can't wait to see which of the guys will be brought to the forefront next, or the situation they will all find themselves in (although between you and me, I'm hoping for Quinn or Ian, I already have a soft spot for them and we haven't even scratched their surfaces).

4.0 out of 5 stars Decent action/romance

I enjoyed this but didn't particularly like Audrey. She vacillated between ditzy girl, strong, and stupid. Quite a number typos e.g. bought instead of bout, he shirked his clothes, I think shed more appropriate. I liked the action but not so much the inane conversation at times.
Spoiler
Note, they have stuffed veal chops for fancy dinner where he's in a tuxedo and she an evening dress. Chops are a cheap cut of meat. Stuffed veal cutlets might be more in keeping.
I didn't like her pushing H to have sex when held hostage.
Over all it was a pleasant read. It kept my interest.

Explosive start to the Hornet series! Popping up in the Wilde series, we finally get to meet the whole team and I wasn't disappointed!

A new team that has never worked together, men with there own demons to fight so let's send them on a mission!

Great hostage/recovery storyline. Action, suspense and things all adding up gives you Gabe & Audrey's introduction.

The threads are all set up nicely for the present and future character storylines to come, it was one of those reads that was in my mind when I had to be a responsible adult and waiting to get back to the read.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Great Start to the Hornet Series

I have now read Seal of Honor multiple times and always enjoy it. As it has plenty of action, pockets of suspense and great characters. And even though there isn't a lot of romance what there is I do enjoy. Although I never quite believe how quickly Gabe and Audrey fall in love. But overall I do think this is a great read and start to the series. Which is why I would happily recommend to others.
