I should have DNF'd this book because it was so bad but I soldiered through til the end and it just got worse and worse.
Reasons I hate this book?
#1. It is disgusting. There is a multi page conversation about urination. There is a scene that is supposed to be funny but isn't about a dolphin penis and a kid comparing the size of it to his dad's dick. There is vomiting and a vomit bag full of vomit that are mentioned multiple times from multiple perspectives. That is all by page 20.
There also is a sex scene where afterwards the hero removes the used condom and ties it off then throws it on the ground next to the fireplace they're cuddling in front of.
The heroine pops off her top and sprays breast milk all over the place, including on the hero. The heroine comments that she is a "gusher" and the hero quips about how he knows all about that (cause I guess she gushes during sex too)
#2. The heroine (Lainey) is the most unlikable person ever. She trembles and cries and freaks out about everything from storms to airplanes to crowds and more. She spends half the novel trembling in fear or puking about something and the hero (Rook/RJ) has to come save her.
#3. You're telling me these two basically lived together and banged nonstop for 6 weeks but she never got his last name? Nahh
#4. Female characters who are in relationships with hockey players are fine, but every other female who flirts with one is a "puck bunny" or "puck slut"
#5. Lainey's mom and Walter are also terrible people. She went on like 2 dates with Walter but apparently that gives him permission to go all psycho and basically stalk her, including calling her mother and tattling because RJ was at her house. This prompts her mom to call her a floozy and yell at her.
#6. Lainey was supposedly in Alaska to study dolphins but she apparently is just writing a thesis on her computer? There is no discussion of her actually going to a research facility, a research vessel, observing these dolphins in the wild... Lainey just bangs RJ all the time and uses his internet to write her thesis. Not sure why she had to go to Alaska for that.
I could continue but I think I'm about done. I'm glad I got this book through kindle unlimited because I would have pretty upset with myself for spending actual money on it.
