5.0 out of 5 starsThe Almost King

A great second book. N.C. Reed has a very dynamic writing style that drives all of his stories forward. Parno, as now the kingdom's Field Marshal, is continuing to do what he can to hold the kingdom's army together in face of increasing pressure from its northern neighbor. But, it is not all war and sacrifice. Finally, a love interest has shown up for both Parno and his brother; how that will play out will be interesting. The kingdom remains on the cusp of destruction and Parno needs to return to the battle lines facing overwhelming odds. Great story, well-written and edited. A few minor spelling errors along the way, fair warning for some. Great plot and a powerful story line. All in all, an excellent book.
5.0 out of 5 starsI'm a little concerned that I can read faster than this author can write new stories.

Rich and detailed characters and descriptive writing in this compelling story. In a way, I'm glad I found this author later than most so I can read second volumes without having to wait for new books to be edited and published. Reed has a rather hypnotic writing style that makes me care less about my job, feeding my animals or caring for myself or others - as I promise everyone around me that I will take care of them after just one more chapter. I made an agreement with myself that I would do laundry and clean house just as soon as I finished Parno's Company, but alas, Parno's Destiny is waiting, and I truly believe it needs me...
5.0 out of 5 starsAnother great story, keep them coming.

I have to admit that after reading the kid and odd billy todd, N.C. Reed went to the top of my authors list. Parno's company was a great read and it was a long wait for Parno's destiny but worth the wait. Another great story as all his stories are and I would recommend this book and his others to anyone that likes a good tale.
But the editing was again dismal at best. It started off great and I thought, “good he found a better editor!” However just a few chapters in I discovered I was wrong. Seeing the number of book this author has out there I would hope by now he has found some decent proof readers.... I encourage you to go back through these early works and fix these simple but distracting errors!
In the far distant future, after the collapse of civilization, there are still principled men and women to carry on society and drive out those that would overrun them. This was a very easy read and one of the most enjoyable books (And Series) I have had the pleasure to read. Strong characters, very well developed.

After a long wait I was plunged back into Parno's world and once again I was captivated and entranced!! Mr. Reed has done it again , created a book I couldn't put down until the end and left me bemoaning the next one wasn't waiting to be opened immediately!!! Excellent book as the all have been What a treasure N C Reed is creating endearing and villainous characters who you love or hate as you are plunged into exciting new adventures. One of my favorite authors by far , buying one of his books is NEVER a misstep!!!
I've gotten reluctant to give 5* ratings. Seems like the quality of books is declining. I must have 20 unfinished books on my kindle, I've bought in the last 12 months.
So if I didn't want to put it down, was sorry I finished it and didn't feel like there were many typos, it is eligible. READ PARNO'S COMPANY first.
Just bought a different N.C. Reed book. About 1/2 way through in 4 days. Guess the author is going on my watch list.

I did not see where N. C. Reed indicated there would be a third book. My copy said book 2 of 2; however, I thought there were to be 3 books in this series. Parno's Destiny is a 5 star read as far as I am concerned. I have enjoyed this series of books. This book leaves a lot of questions about Parno and the future of Soulan.

Great sequel, no slacking of pace, another thoroughly enjoyable read. Parno's life is never going to be the same again, now that he had proved himself constant new demands are made of him and he rises to the challenge.
A great story getting better and better Parno’s growing experience and war making are very fascinating and detailed without getting stuck in endless minutiae. Will keep excitedly reading. If you like war stories of armies and kings and drama you will love this series. I do. Having read Gemmel and Fiest and many other fantasy authors this is amongst the best. Compelling reading.
I read the first Black Sheep book and enjoyed it tremendously. This second in the series slows things down a tad and brings more of a Royal Family flavour as well as a good battle or two. Naturally I shall be reading the next book to see how it all pans out and I suggest that if you enjoyed the first in the series that you give this one a try.
5.0 out of 5 starsCollectable series, great value!

I just can't wait for this adventure to continue, already the plot thickens with the odd occassional twist of the dagger in the most unexpected of directions, vividly portrayed gives one the feeling your on the shield wall! Great reading....
