1.0 out of 5 starsBasically recycled other Petty books

If u have read Conversations with Tom Petty or Warren Zane’s Petty biography, then u do not need to bother. It’s basically all taken from those books and rewritten. Waste of money
Being a huge fan like so many others, I thought I knew it all about his music & career. Very insightful about the music industry at that time & Los Angeles. Christopher McKittrick's style of story telling/writing drew me right in and I could not put it down. An incredible amount of research had to go into this book and it is proof positive that it was very enjoyable, found myself smiling a lot as I was reading. I look forward to exploring some of his earlier publications; Can’t Give It Away on Seventh Avenue: The Rolling Stones and New York City & Montauk. Thank You Chris, such a wonderful dedication to one of the most brilliant musicians in our lifetime, Tom Petty.
5.0 out of 5 starsAnother Excellent & Thorough Exploration Of A Rock Icon

Great Reading-Great Memories! Stopped a few times to listen to his cd's in between chapters- to add to the excitement of Mr. McKittrick's extensive research - including lots of quotes from Petty- what an Incredibly Talented Man (and his band The Heartbreakers too!!)- and a man concerned with the "little guy" (read: Fans). Keep up these wonderful Inside Looks on the Music Makers that came along decades ago but continue to influence today's new bands as well as bringing joy to we older folk and now the youngins' too!

This book is great for people who are huge Tom Petty fans, and for people who are not at all familiar with his work. In this work you will learn of the life and history of Tom Petty and the amazing people who influenced him, and who he influenced. Somehow this book made me an even bigger Tom Petty fan than I was before.

I thought I knew a lot about Tom Petty’s music and his career, but I learned a lot more by reading this well researched and entertaining book. A bonus was that I also learned a lot about Los Angeles music history and all of the various venues and recording studios.
This book is a must read for all Tom Petty fans! I highly recommend it!
