How are ratings calculated?
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzes reviews to verify trustworthiness.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Timely Teaching for Right Now

Dr. Kristin Neff beautifully explores and explains the protective, assertive, "Mama/Papa Bear " phenomenon that is the "Yang" part of true mindful self-compassion, her longtime area of expertise. This Yang energy prompts people to act, to move into the world to better it, to create lives in genuine harmony with their core values, and Neff demonstrates in the various meditations and exercises in this audio book, how productively it can flow with the Yin energy of unconditional love/deep acceptance that many may have misidentified as the sole component of self-compassion. Veterans facing mental health challenges, people healing from substance abuse, anybody seeking the strong, active part of self-compassion that creates paths forward in the world, will welcome The Yin & Yang of Self-Compassion. Dr. Neff is a professor at the University of Texas at Austin who works with Chris Germer, PhD who is associated with Harvard Medical School. The ideas and practices in The Yin and Yang of Self-Compassion are the result of academic and scientific inquiry. This book is lovely to listen to and the lessons about the Yang part of self-compassion offer energy, strength, dynamism, and optimism to anyone seeking change, large or small.
