I enjoy many of Ann Aguirre's works and this book was so cute! I loved the idea of a techno witch and how each woman had her own brand of talents in different "fields" of magic. The small town setting was adorable and both characters felt alive and vivid. The hero, Titus, especially really came to life and I sympathized so much with him (fellow perpetually single compatriot over here!). The dialogue was quick and snappy, cheesy where it needed to be (the MCs have very cheesy senses of humor), and I gobbled this book up!
There were a few things that took a star off for me, though. By the middle of the book, I really wanted to smack Danica, our heroine, upside the head. She goes on and on about how she sees her mother as weak compared to her domineering grandmother, but then is a doormat to everyone else's wants except her own. In doing so she hurts herself and the hero. I felt so so bad for the hero, probably because I saw a lot of myself in him, and thought he deserved to be even more frustrated that he was. Danica was wishy washy for quite a while, thinking they couldn't be together and knowing the hero wanted more but still finding excuses to pursue seeing him but also holding back. It wasn't fair. Granted, this is a pretty realistic way to show that love is messy and unfair sometimes, but yeah, the middle was a bit hard to get through when the truth of things are so obvious and Danica seems to be oblivious to it for the sake of the plot. When she casts a spell to show her the right path, it ends up bringing Titus to her door, and she thinks the spell went wrong. The book also never corrects her, when it's pretty obvious to the reader that it went perfectly right. I also didn't understand how Danica waited so long to talk to her mother and have the truth laid out for her. I felt like her reasoning was a bit thin and more plot-driven.
I also would have loved to delve a bit deeper into this magical world; we see a few bits of magic but I was interested in how this magic "worked." I was a bit bummed that witches are underground and seriously can't tell anyone, even spouses, that they're witches. But the small town setting made up for it!
Overall this was a great read, extremely strong writing, and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys the genre! Just give yourself time to power through so you don't have to go the bed in the middle and worry about these two ;)
