Over Easy is the second book in The Dragon Born Academy Series and it takes place immediately after Book One. This cannot be read as a standalone, you need to read Cracked Open first or you will be COMPLETELY lost.
Great follow up to Book One. We see Sydney moving through her first year at Balaur Academy, getting settled in and learning how to be a student and a DragonBorn. Ashe is gone doing Dragonborn Militia things and this leaves Sydney with lots of time to devote to school, learning more about her history, trying to uncover the secrets surrounding her mom and George, and friends... like Logan Brooks. As mature as Sydney thinks she is, she is still only 16 and trying to navigate a new world and having to learn the rules as she goes. The more she digs to find answers, the more questions come about. She’s learning that everyone has an agenda and that truth is subjective. The DragonBorn are a very small community where Power is key and secrets are currency, and Sydney needs to learn to harness her DragonBorn powers and trust her gut (and Aaraeth - her dragon) We learn quite a few bombshells that once again turn Sydney’s life upside down and I’m curious to see how they will play out in Book 3.
This book differed from book one in that the prologue and epilogue are in Ashe’s POV. I absolutely loved this! I think we needed to see what Ashe was thinking and feeling, I think it changes the whole trajectory of Ashe and Syd’s relationship. Ashe is a good man and I see where he’s coming from and see why he’s done the things he’s done. I feel like the prologue helped make this story not so taboo with the age gap and bond mate/homewrecker issues that arose from Book One.
I’m anxious to see what’s in store for everyone as we get into Book 3, hopefully we get some answers. Solid follow up for the series!
