What a gorgeous novel!
Reading Otolorin's coming of age story was like unraveling a vibrant tapestry. As noted in other reviews, some of the content is heavy, but Oto, who must bear the weight of so much intergenerational trauma, carries the reader too. There is much beauty in this protagonist--courage, cleverness, a deep capacity for love--the reader will not want to leave Oto's side.
This is an ambitious narrative woven with lyric prose, vivid imagery, and colorful Nigerian folktales. Papillon's book (and Otolorin the character) achieve a rare triumph: that of integration. The reader's emotional investment in this story pays off!
I highly recommend!
