In this installment of the series Ryan and his band find themselves on the coast of what is left of California in the middle of a power struggle between a old softhearted baron and a husband and wife team who has the town enthralled with their giant snake cult. Ryan and his group try there best to stay out of the con flit despite the efforts of both factions to pull them in on their respective sides. I thought that this book was well written and fast paced and J.B , a character that usually does not get a lot of attention was given a more active role in the story. I was saddened to see the demise of a long time member of the group but I think that this is what makes the series good the willingness to kill off an established character. Out of the 8 or so book that I have read in the series so far I would put this in the top 3.
I bought the whole deathlands series and the Outlanders series for my husband as a gift a couple years ago. He loved them and actually said they were the best books he had ever read. He had read a whole lot so that is saying something. My husband passed away in Feb so I doubt I be buying anymore of them as they come out. I think of him every time I see one of the books. It is a bitter sweet memory though. I get sad because he is not here, but am happy I bought them for him and he enjoyed them so very much.
AS AN AVID READER OF DEATHLANDS (YOU'LL KNOW BY MY NICKNAME) I THINK THIS IS A GREAT INSTALLMENT IN THE SERIES. THE GROUP IN ITS EARLY STAGES WHICH MEANS PRE- MILDRED AND DEAN, FINDS ITSELF IN CALIFORNIA AND IN A VILLE THAT PRODUCES GASOLINE. BIKIES FOR SEC MEN AND YOU CAN GUESS THE REST. THIS STORY FEATURES TWO MEMBERS OF THE CLAN ,RICK GINSBERG (A FREEZIE LIKE MILDRED) AND THE HARLOT ,LORI QUINT. I WON'T SPOIL IT BUT THEY BOTH HAVE A BAD DAY. ANOTHER FAVE OF MINE!

Another fantastic story from James Axler. The Deathlands series continues to impress. West coast barons with loads of fuel makes for great corruption in the post-apocolyptic US.
