3.0 out of 5 starsGood story, uncomfortable grammar issue
Reviewed in the United States on October 4, 2018
I really enjoyed this story, which is what kept me reading in spite of the uncomfortable & confusing grammar issue. I found the ongoing, continued use of the words "they" and "their" to refer to a person whose gender was yet unknown (until the very end), throughout the ENTIRE book, quite annoying. Every time the person was referred to in this way, my mind immediately thought "plural" and I had to translate for myself from the context that it referred to a "singular" person of unknown gender. It would have flowed much smoother to have had the person referred to as the generic "he" until the gender was revealed at the end. (by the way, because of this uncomfortable grammar, the unknown gender was obvious from the beginning, and the reveal completely anticlimactic when it finally came). Thanks for the opportunity to voice my frustration, and I hope the author/editor will reconsider that particular grammar in future books.
4.0 out of 5 starsSeries builds from one book to the next

The concept for this series was a good one. However, there were enough errors in true military life and protocol that for a military spouse as the reader, the flow was disrupted by the distraction. The story lines were good, and featured the bond between military dogs and their families. I did end up reading the complete series.
So happy for Chase and Masiey, after losing her father to the Red Rose Killer, and Chase's wife divorcing him and giving him full custody of Aillie, these two deserved their HEA. This story had a dirty investigator, murder, attempted kidnapping, greed, suspicion, planted made up evidence, jealousy, and so much more. I am really enjoying this series.
Suspense filled, kept you trying to figure out who was behind this activity and why!! Very well written. Maggie is good at portraying each person feelings and what is in their past that has affected them. Enjoyed this novel' !
It will be a relief to have Boyd Sullivan caught. His crimes are being used to hurt so many people, sometimes almost ruining lives. Boyd is not the only bad person in the books, but fortunately, there are enough good people around to "save the day". It was close this time.
I continued to enjoy this series and follow the lives, the challenged and trials of the various characters established in Book 1 and the introduction of new characters from time to time. The various elements of romance, mystery and spiritual input are perfect.
