I enjoyed reading this story, the first I've read in this series. The main characters were likeable, as were the secondary characters. This story was different than other shifter stories I've read in that the shifter MMC had a daughter from a relationship with a female shifter who died during childbirth, plus she wasn't his mate. She was a grizzly shifter and he's a Kodiak shifter. The grizzly shifter who was her mate went crazy when she rejected him (I got the impression there was something off about him to begin with and that's why she rejected him). The grizzly shifter mate was killed trying to kidnap Finley (the MMC's daughter) but I don't remember reading how he died or who killed him. It was also mentioned that there has been bad relations between the grizzly and kodiak shifters for generations, so their relationship made it even worse. Now it's several years later (can't remember how old Finley was in this story), and the MMC meets his human mate, the story takes off from there. The sex was hot but not the main focus, their relationship was. One thing I found odd about this author Is how she portrayed shifters in that female shifters couldn't shift, only the males. That seems really weird to me, if both your parents are shifters, you should be able to shift, whether male or female. I can understand it if one parent is human, then any child born might not be able to shift. Anyway, I would recommend reading this story.

Weston Koleman has been raising his 6 year old daughter Finley with the help of his family since she was born. Finley's mom was not his mate, and not a Kodiak, but Grizzly. Finley wasn't planned, but was wanted and loved. Heidi died after giving birth, and Weston has carried the guilt since. They never should have hooked up. Grizzly's and Kodiak's have been feuding for generations. Finley's birth has strained the Kodiak and Grizzly relations even further. Heidi's family wants Fin with them, there is no way that Weston is giving up his daughter. Fin is a precocious, and stubborn, with a habit of running off when ever the mood strikes her. She has taken a liking to his new sisters in law's friend Kate. Kate lost her fiance' to a drunk driver. Trying to move forward she followed her best friends to Alaska to stat over, or at least take a year away and write the books she has been dreaming of. The writing isn't going so well. She has her first love, baking to fall back on, and running her friends bookstore and cafe. Then there is little Finley who she has become fond of and her handsome dad. Kate is looking for Prince Charming and that's not Weston. Weston's focus in on his daughter, he is drawn to Kate, and when he impulsively kissed her, he know why. She is his mate and she is thinking about leaving sooner than the year she planned. Weston has to explain what he is, what it means to be a mate and hopes Kate will want to stay, while protecting his daughter. Fast paced and steamy. Loved Weston and Kate and Finley. Really feel heart broken for Finley's Grizzly family. Good or bad, can't imagine how hard it would be to have no relationship with your deceased sisters child. Hoping they get a story.

Weston is finding his patience tested by his daughter who likes to wander off on her own, not understanding the possible danger she may put herself in. Enter Kate, who somehow manages to gets Finley's attention and steer her toward obeying her father. All seems well until Finley starts talking about her father being a bear, which Kate just writes off to childhood imagination. This is a great addition to this series.

Bear Valley, a magical place where true love awaits. Kate & Weston's stories made my eyes mist. They both experienced heartache & loss but still have so much to give. Weston's daughter, Finley, is not afraid to let Kate know she wants her to be a part of her and her Dad's lives. Romantic story with an HEA. These stories just keep making my heart gush.
Weston Koleman was known in Bear Valley as the bad boy player until his Finley was born that is. Never even gave a thought to a woman again, till he gave in to temptation and stole a kiss from Kate that is, then he discovered that the fates were really looking down on him, she's his mate and she would be a terrific mom to his daughter too. She seems to be the only one Finley listens to, not to mention the fact that Finley really, really likes being with her and she never runs away when she's around Kate either. Now all he has to do is convince her that he has changed his old ways and that she's the only one for him.
Kate has writers block, maybe it just wasn't meant to be, baking will always be her thing, oh and waiting for her Prince Charming to come charging in. When Weston steals a kiss from her she throws caution to the wind and winds up doing the naughty which is so not her at all. Will Weston go back to his old ways now that she's opened the dam after his 7 years of celibacy?
These Koleman boys are really bringing life to Bear Valley!
