I have to admit, I was disappointed. the book started off pretty good, not exciting , but a decent read. As I got into it, it appeared the writer was getting bored and just looking to finish it up. And after reading it, I feel it is a little overpriced. I gave it a 5 star because my review wouldn't be posted unless it was a good report
I’m only halfway through, but WOW! I am loving the fact that I’m not the only one with crazy worries and fears! I love that Scarlet has the Scripture right there in the book as she’s applying it. This book is reminding me to find my identity in Christ and not my fears!
Scarlet is the kind of writer that makes you instantly feel like you’re just having a conversation with a bestie. But that feeling also comes with a firey gospel centered truth that will convict and send you running to the foot of the cross. This book is all these things. I highly recommend it if you struggle with fears of any kind, or maybe even if you think you don’t. It’s loaded with stories that will make you laugh and think. And loaded with truth that will having you reaching for Jesus again and again.
What I liked most about “Afraid of all the things” was how transparent the author was with her audience. As if I and her were sitting together, talking and sipping ice cold tea and she went on and on about all her fears and how the Jesus of the Bible was always the answer. He was her peace, her solace, her stronghold, her hideaway, her super hero, her promise giver and promise fulfiller. Jesus was the only one to calm all the scary things she was afraid of.
What I liked least about this book. It came to an end.
I feel like I am an expert level worrier. Some of my fear is rooted truly difficult life traumas, some of it is fear of imagined things and what ifs. Afraid of All the Things was equal measure funny and uplifting. Scarlet speaks truth that challenged my knee jerk fear reaction. I am a work in progress, but this book has been medicine to my fretful soul. I highly recommend it!!!
LOVE this book!!! Books can easily lose my attention-but Afraid of All the Things kept me trying to steal away time by myself to finish reading!! Scarlet Hiltibidal has the perfect blend of humor and truth to leave you encouraged, crying a little, and laughing a lot. Her honest, personal stories make you feel like your listening to your lifelong best friend. I highly recommend this book! It is a book that everyone can relate to- even if you aren’t a “fearful” person. Go ahead, do yourself a favor, and get a copy for yourself and for a friend.
