I like the author's action scenes. There is plenty of intrigue too but it doesn't slow down the book. Strongstaff's family is growing and the family side of the book makes the characters even more real and brings them to life. Hated when it ended but a satisfying ending.

The characters are alive, vibrant and deserve much further scrutiny. Sir William continues to guide the reader through the maze of intrigues, while he is the most straight forward of all the characters. Henry IV is riveting, Prince Henry is the most intriguing of all, look forward to the next adventure.
As usual, I struggled to take breaks from reading another of Mr. Hosker’s books! Of course now I must wait in reader’s agony for the next book to appear! I am thankful for every trip through English history I take with a tour guide as talented as Griff Hosker! Highly recommended for fans of medieval historical fiction.

I am obsessed with Plantagenets & their history as well as stories woven into theirs. Griff Hosker has definitely kept my interest with this- details were so great I could picture incidents vividly in my own imagination at almost 30yrs old. I can’t wait for the next book in the series!
This series is very well written, historically accurate and very compelling to read. Griff Hosker is an amazing author. Waiting anxiously for the next installment.

Love his books but I am baffled at how an English teacher of 30 or so years has no idea about grammar or punctuation. Good story and history but so sad for the author’s carelessness and lack of pride in workmanship. All that said I am continuing to read his books because they are good reading

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. A sweeping tale of an England at war with itself. The insight of the workings and hostility in a battle Was brilliantly done. Made you feel as if you were there dodging A sword or spear. Six star tale.

I enjoyed reading the book but I thought it was similar in some respects to previous books in the series and it lacked a bit of excitement for me. Perhaps I am getting to know Mr Hosker too well! The good news is I spotted few typos this time.

As with the previous from start to finish the reader (especially in my case) feel the reality of the characters, the history retold, and the personalities of all involved. Brilliant.
This book flowed well with the previous one it was so well thought out that it was nearly impossible for me to put it down I read it in just two days and that is only because I had to sleep. I have already got the following book and I am reading through that one right now.

Another great Hosker novel,he weaves a good saga,of how a simple camp follower, becomes a knight then a baron. The novel moves from Scotland,Yorkshire,Wales and beyond.
