Don't let my rating fool you. This book is beautifully written. Readman has absolutely beautiful imagery comparable to the poet Anne Carson. A true wordsmith. Her island setting is also interesting and makes the world feel unique. That being said, this book does not contain a plot. As I write this review, I struggle to describe a single event that happened in the story besides the wedding. I have no problem with a slice of life story, but nothing happens in this story. It kills me because Readman can clearly develop characters and relationships and say very beautiful things, but she is incapable of telling a story. You can't give a story with no plot anything about a 3-star rating. The prose is stunning, nothing really happens in the book.
