Whew! I knew I would love this book as there is not a book Brenda Novak writes that I don’t love and anxiously wait for, but I must admit this book had so much emotion that I feel like I have been through the wringer. Back in Silver Springs with Aiyana and the family she has made from those she took in when she started her school, her wedding to come, and one of her adopted sons, Dallas, has come home for the wedding and Christmas. Dallas is a free solo climber, with a horrendous past, and emotionally still closed off. Emery has come to Aiyana’s home to hide out after a shocking video of her is posted. She is still shell shocked by it, the loss of her job and betrayal by her ex boyfriend. Dallas and Emery have sparks.....you could feel them through the pages. As only Ms Novak can do, each scene builds on the one before, until I was turning pages as fast as I could to figure out what would come next. As always, a wonderful story and a perfect Christmas romance.

Dallas Turner is back home at New Horizons, a home for troubled youth. Aiyana started this school for boys and recently added girls to the mix. She loves the youths so much that she adopted seven of the boys. Dallas is one of those adopted. When he was six years old he saw his father shoot and kill his mother and sister. Only because he hid did he avoid being a victim. Even after many years of therapy he has a bad case of survivor's guilt. He feels it should have been him that was killed and not his sister. He also fears relationships. In his mind he doesn't deserve to be happy. For a living he is a rock climber and just got his first endorsement. Life on the edge is what appeals to him.

Emery Bliss grew up in Silver Springs. She had a job in Los Angeles as a co-anchor at a television station. She was carrying on with her co-anchor, Ethan, and felt she was in love. As the relationship ran its course Emery broke things off with Ethan. He did not take this well and was very vindictive.
Somehow a tape of Emery and Ethan making love turned up on social media. From there it went viral. In the blink of an eye Emery had lost her boyfriend, her job and her reputation. Knowing she couldn't stay around she went to Silver Springs and to Aiyana. She knew she would not be judged there. She needed to regroup and figure out what to do with her life.

Emery and Dallas had gone to high school together but they travelled in different circles. Both of them are now staying with Aiyana. Perhaps something might spark between them. I loved this book and couldn't turn the pages quick enough to find out what was happening next. If you are a Brenda Novak fan then A California Christmas is not to be missed.

As always Brenda Novak does not disappoint her readers. What an inspiring story of two people who have had tragic thing happen in their lives to bond together to help each other get through them. Silver Springs was the perfect location for this story while it intertwined with characters from other Silver Springs books and made me feel like I was living in the town with them. I wanted to buy cookies from Emery and Susan, attend the big wedding and be part of the community. Great book all the way around!

Spoilers

I have liked all books in this series that being said this was my least favorite. There was just too much going on with Emerys parenrs getting divorced to Dallas's dad coming back in the picture plus Ethan Grimes her ex. Also the last chapter before the epilogue the big romantic moment happend through the phone not in person it started off in a text then she called him. For the price I paid plus considering how great the other books were this was a definite let down.

I have now read more than 20 of her books and have loved them all! A California Christmas is part of the Silver Springs series. I just can't get enough of all of these characters!

Dallas witnessed a terrible tragedy when he was really young and was later adopted by Aiyana the owner of New Horizons school after being bounced around different foster families. Now an adult, but still battling the emotional scars of his childhood, he is returning to Silver Springs for his adoptive mom's wedding.

Emory was on her way to the top. She was a co-anchor of a news channel and knew she was going to be successful. However, after trusting the wrong person, her world is turned upside down. Her parents in the middle of a nasty divorce, she decided to take Aiyana up on her offer to come stay in Silver Springs until she got back on her feet.

The chemistry between Dallas and Emory is off the charts. I love a good second chance romance and this one did not disappoint!

Welcome back to Silver Springs! Aiyana believes in giving people a second chance or space to figure out what they want to do next in their lives. Emery Bliss is at a crossroads. She was the good girl, never getting into trouble. Always on the right path. That is till a co-worker tries to destroy her. Dallas is home for his mom's wedding. All her adopted sons are going to be home for the wedding and Christmas for the first time in years. From the moment he sees her, his protective instincts take over. He wants to protect her against everything but knows he can't. He feels to damaged to give her more than friendship. They are two hurt souls who found the time to be in a bubble before it breaks. She fell in love but he can't. It isn't till a heart wrenching scene on the mountain top, a talk with a father figure, that he comes out of the fog. He has chosen the HEA.

I just loved Brenda's books and how much they draw you in. This on was no different. I have read all the Silver Springs books and I think this one might be my new favorite. I loved the way Dallas looked after and cared for Emery since day one and no matter how hard he tried to fight it he really did love her with all his heart. I hated how his father almost messed everything up with her, but in the end he knew that he needed her to be whole again. I cant wait to here more bits and pieces of their love in the rest of the Silver Springs Series.
