How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

I woke up at 3 am to read this and finished it in a day.
I laughed so hard I couldn’t drink coffee while reading just in case
And I marveled at the bits where I could say hey this is me too.
This book makes those of us that are a little broken feel included in the rest of the world.
You are weird. You are not alone. You are ok.

Broken (in the best possible way) is the third books of essays by blogger Jenny Lawson.

It’s a good book. You should like it.

Lawson, if you are familiar with her work, writes a lot about her own struggles with mental illness, and this book really centers her experience living with and looking for treatment for her anxiety and depression (and all her other physical maladies as well).

She approaches life with humor and appreciates the absurdity of the world, or at least that is her public face. The stories are raw and human and honest, blending the serious with the levity she brings. Her books have been successful, and rightfully so. Reading her work is enjoyable and it stirs up the emotions. I recommend you pick up a copy.

As usual with Jenny Lawson's writing... I am in stitches laughing aloud with this one! I'm only about 30 pages in, but I was reading while at a diner, and I could not stop laughing in that agreeing way we do when someone else is sharing an experience exactly like you & your experiences... I like to think of it as the "ah hah" laugh - meaning I love to know that I am not alone in my quirkiness, and sense of humor. Love, love, love it!

I love Jenny Lawson & was so excited that this book was coming out. I downloaded it & started reading it at work but was laughing so hard I couldn't even pretend to be productive. So I said I was sick & went home so I could read it. Jenny is a great story teller & is so funny! When she writes about her mental illness, it's very personal. You can tell that she's not phoning it in, that those are her genuine thoughts. Keep the books coming, Jenny! We are loving them & rooting for you!

1.0 out of 5 stars too many bad words to enjoy the funny content

I love a funny memoir, and I thought this would be another fun one to read. The ugly words were more than I could handle, and I'm used to a few cuss words in all books, but there were so many in the first few chapters, that I stopped reading it. I was embarrassing myself silently reading all the ugly words. I would love to read her books , if they were clean. I wasted almost 17.00.

5.0 out of 5 stars It’s nice to know I’m not the only broken one

A book has to blow me away to get a review…consider me blown.

In her book, Jenny talks about how she likes to think about how our souls are like glass spheres we carry around. And like all glass things that go through the kind of crazy life this world puts us through, shards break off.

The shard of her soul she left for us in this book “Broken” to let others (like me) that feel this way, know we are not alone, has over the course of this read been my life saver.

She said this herself about those who leave these kinds of beautiful shards for others to find, “Those people [Jenny Lawson among them] make magic words and bittersweet songs and raucous art and beautiful pain. Those people make the world go around.” (p.277)

The day I started this book was my best friend’s father’s funeral which reminded me of my own father’s that had happened only 8 months before who died from COVID. The day I finished this book (today) is the 1yr anniversary of my father’s death.

As a woman who’s struggled with chronic pain, depression, and anxiety my entire life, this last year I’ve seen so many shards of my soul break off I’ve wondered if I still carry it at all.

But reading the hilarity of Jenny’s life (we share a name but not a spelling) combined with the beautiful eloquence in understanding how to get through the s*** of it all reminds me that I’m not only not alone, but I’ve been collecting shards from others. That my souls can expand to make the holes smaller, and sometimes you just have to blow the whole freakin’ thing up to be open to healing.

This isn’t just a book that will make you laugh and cry, for me, it has been a life line.

Thank you Jenny for sharing your vulnerable moments to help me feel strong enough to get through the day.

P.S. You should definitely publish versions of all your books with the notes in the margins between you and your editors. I’ve never laughed so hard ever!!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Heartbreaking yet hilarious indictment of America's broken healthcare system

This is the second Jenny Lawson memoir I've read, and while it's all more of the same stuff or similar to what I read in Furiously Happy, she still does manage to crack me up.

I'm studying to be an Elderly Patient Advocate now, and surprisingly I did find a couple things in this book that relate to my coursework. For example when Lawson described her difficulties with meds and claimed what she needs is a Drug Butler, I laughed because that's kind of part of my job. The other thing was her less funny, more Sisyphus-like experience fighting to get her ludicrously expensive medication covered by health insurance, first by requesting and then by appealing, and finally filing for an external or independent review. Her step-by-step description of the painful process entitled "An Open Letter to My Health Insurance Company," made for a much more comprehensive lesson than any I've received in class.

This book is amazing. I have MADD and at times it was like reading the jumble that's in my head in actual words.
Jenny Lawson writes very frankly about her struggle with depression and anxiety, and the mad randomness that is her life, and it's funny and scary and identifiable and so human. Brilliant!
