I was in Charlottesville on August 11 and August 12 and the way the events are portrayed in this book is nauseating. Some of what is written is factually inaccurate. People have been protesting this book and after reading it I can see why.
I can also see why people who weren’t there or aren’t from Charlottesville wouldn’t understand why the book is so problematic. The author portrays himself as a hero and someone to look to for guidance when defeating white supremacy, yet he says that ignoring klansmen is a great way to defeat them. Ask any Black person why that’s a horrifying idea.
Save yourself the trouble and don’t read this book. If you must, check it out from the library. I don’t like to give negative reviews, but this is truly terrible.
