Basically read this wonderful book in one sitting! Way to good to put down for very long! Wonderful and heartwarming story that reminded me of great memories of my Great Grandmother (who scared me as a little girl) who was no nonsense, my Grandmother who was extremely laid back and easy going and very quick to cause an uproar at times. and my mother who was a combination of them depending on the situation! Thank you for a wonderful and entertaining read and a great trip down memory lane! God Bless! Please.keep writing!
I absolutely loved this book and hope Mrs. Rowe will honor us with a second, third and on. Truly, a gift to all who have the wisdom to read her lines. A joy to any who can relate in the smallest way. Thank you, I enjoyed your reminisce greatly.
'About My Mother' is everything promised & so much more. I've followed Mike on social media for years so I 'knew' his mom, but following Mrs. R on social media is an adventure in every post. And now that I've 'met' Mrs. Thelma I see that the apple truly doesn't fall far from the tree. What a hoot!!! I cannot wait to share this book, especially with the mominator
At 80 the lady writes about her mother. Both are very opinionated, but determined and total adore each other. Totally opposites we wonder how in families our children seem to be from another family tree. - Same in this book. The mother of Mike Rowe (Dirty Jobs and Returning the Favor), the book is hilarious and her wit and humor makes the book WORTH every dime. She has totally given Mike his sense of humor. Older people from the 40-50 eras will love it. If they love the Baltimore ORIORALS they HAVE to read this!!!! You will LAUGH out loud no matter where you are.
The eyebrow communication of displeasure somehow my own mother had developed, so I totally related! The stories are super entertaining..and written with love and adoration. And not talking back to your mother was Not done..ever! I loved traveling down memory lane with Peggy! Jeannie
One of my all time favorite TV programs was "Dirty Jobs" with Mike Rowe. I often wondered how he obtained such a warm and wonderful sense of humor...NOW I KNOW! I loved every moment of this book because I grew up in a family filled with laughter, jokes, poking fun at one another AND being a middle child with a tender-hearted Dad and what I then believed to be a monolithic (solid rock on the outside BUT putty on the inside) Mom, I felt every word/emotion and laughed so hard I could see myself on every page. The warmth with which Peggy penned the words of this book and illustrated her love and appreciation for her MOM and family made me remember with joy, the honor I had in having such great parents (poor but happy) and extended family members to fill my memories. Expect to laugh and expect to remember!!! THANK YOU PEGGY for putting into words the love I shared with my MOM and DAD (my sister and I miss them every day and laugh like crazy when we think about our childhood)...I'm sharing the book with those I love!
I really loved this book. So many of my own memories came flooding back as I read it. I too was horse crazy, had a pretend horse (a sapling stripped of bark with hay bale twine as bridle), loved helping our school librarian before and after school, read every horse book I could find, ran wild in woods and fields, and had a horse friend who ran with me (he on one side of the fence and I on the other). If only I'd known at that time that he just wanted to "join up". He was unbroken, and though my father gave permission to try to ride him, my mother was totally against it. I hope there will be more books, as I've learned to love both Peggy and her mother. What a sweet, sweet story of family and love. A wonderful read.
