This is just what I wanted. I am teaching a college course on Neil Gaiman for my Freshman Lit. This is going to be my "text" and I am so looking forward to exposing my students to a whole new world.
I feel like an outlier. I bought this, knowing it's an anthology of "selected" fiction, but not knowing it's an anthology of select EXCERPTS of selected fiction. What is the point?! I'm honestly kind of pissed off.

... I want to say, 'even the one where everyone dies' but that might need a spoiler alert.
I'm always blown away by Neil Gaiman's excellent story-telling, he's a personal writer hero of mine and this collection of unique and wonderful tales has not disappointed. Some I'd read before; all I am delighted to see again in one place. I was glued to this from the point of receiving it and got nothing else done until it was finished. But this was escapist time well spent in the middle of a pandemic. Just magnificent and just the tonic. Best first line in a short story ever: 'Mrs Whitaker found the holy grail; it was under a fur coat.'
I guffawed, and I never use the word 'guffaw'.
I adore Neil Gaiman's creative mind, it always takes the reader on a journey of unexpected, often darkly funny surprises. Read Reader for yourself, it's wonderful. In a world so sadly full of same-old, same-old stories being churned out at high online speed, it's refreshingly unique.
I truly loved this. Thank you to the author for immersing me into a world of new places while cheering my week up. Yes, even when you killed everybody. But it was funny.

I really enjoyed the book. I contains his short stories, and I found it a great way to get into his writing. Some of the stories are longer but some are only a page or two, yet all of them have something special
Young Neil is about the best there is around. His works are beyond categorization. This volume (tome) contains short stories, extracts and forwards. Every page, and there are a lot of pages, is a joy.
5.0 out of 5 starsIt’s not the beginning but it’s a very good place to start

Read a few Gaiman books, my favourite of course being his partnership with the sadly missed Sir Terry. Wanted to get an idea of which of his stories I’d like. Turns out it’s most of them.

The book is great, but the delivery service managed to drop it at the flat entrance and never bothered to ring at my address. Fortunately one of my neighbors found it before it was stolen. Do NOT use DHL
