If I had read this book coming out of college I would have become an entrepreneur. Through story after story of innovative people who discovered a way to make life run more smoothly and joyfully in these challenging but exhilarating times, Frictionless shows that necessity is indeed the mother of invention, and we too can become inventors. The writing itself is frictionless and fun, but we learn a heck of a lot as we absorb the wisdom of the authors and the many creative geniuses interviewed for the book. Before I was halfway through, I gave my copy to my millennial niece who dreams of starting a business. I plan to give copies to others - it's that good.
5.0 out of 5 starsSuper Informative and Frictionless Read

I listened to this as an audiobook. I like that there are perspectives from many constituents: operators, investors, consumers. I also like that it doesn’t drone on about the central theme like so many business books. The best part for me is that there are so many real stories from several current and relevant successful companies including Bonobos, Farmer’s Dog, Minted, Capsule, Stash, Hims, etc. I’ve heard of most of these startups, but it was so interesting to hear some inner workings and back stories and how being frictionless, or addressing friction, in different aspects helped them succeed. For me personally being in the NYC Tech scene for the past decade, was nice to hear about some familiar NYC startups and names in these circles. Christiane’s perspective on the importance of design and branding was also insightful, with helpful resources and references to leaders in the space. She also obviously knows that the startup road is long, and advice about creating a comfortable modern workspace was informative. I learned a lot about current startup genres like vertical farming and startups beyond quantified health, and further in the book about purpose driven and socially responsible investing and startups. This is a super informative and frictionless read which I highly recommend!
4.0 out of 5 starsGreat business/strategy book but also a ~250 page advertisement for the author’s new company

The book is really interesting and well written once you get past the self-serving advertisement for the author’s new company, The Inside, mentioned throughout. The Inside sounded so amazing throughout the book that I tried to use their service as I am remodeling my home during the pandemic, let’s just say Christiane totally oversold her company’s capabilities and service model (I’ve reached out 4 times over email and chat to try and sign up in the last 6 weeks and still haven’t heard back) but did manage to write a really compelling business/strategy book.
