When Keith Stoner awoke, he found himself in a world changed almost beyond recognition. Eighteen years before, Stoner had been the American member of a joint U.S.-Soviet mission to capture an alien ship. The Soviets had to pull out, but Stoner persisted, and while on the strange ship, he fell into suspended animation.

Jo Camerata, the ambitious young student who fell in love with Stoner, is now head of Vanguard Industries, which has recovered the alien ship. As a result, her company is now in control of its vast new technology and the fortune it reaps - and in control of Keith Stoner.

What Camerata doesn't know, however, is that someone else has been awake, someone who dwells within Stoner's mind. The alien presence that has kept Stoner alive all this time is now free and intends to explore our world, letting nothing stand in its way.

Another great story. Can’t wait to start the next book! I only have a couple more titles left before I run out of Ben Bova stories…..

Another fine Ben Bova Audiobook!!

I loved the first book in the trilogy. It ended with a surprise. The second book is set 18 years later and the plot weak and uninspiring. We learned about motivations and met some old characters from the first novel -- but the obstacles were not that high and the science fiction not that deep. With the first book being so strong, this book felt more like a setup to the third than a story in its own right. I did like the ending of the book -- so there is that.

Stephan Rudnicki did an excellent job of narration. I love listening to him. If this book had not been narrated by someone so engaging, I would have given it a two stars overall.

This story is a must for the third book as it fills a lot of holes and it's plotline does not at all stand on its own without reading the first -- so don't even try to skip the first novel. All in all disappointing.

An Oreo trilogy – Strong 1st, soft 2nd -- 3rd?

I have read and or listened to at least a dozen of Bova's book's and this one ranks at the top! Great work! Good characters, good plot with engaging information about alien culture, I was definately impressed! If only I could write this good!

Another Triumph for Bova

Looking into Ben Bova’s view of the world is both refreshing and disturbing. I can’t wait to hear the 3rd volume of the series!

Continued enjoyment

If you're looking for a story of space, aliens, space travel, this is not your series. The review addresses Voyagers, Voyagers II, III, and The Return.

Plot. A spacecraft is approaching earth — no response to earth signals. A mission from earth determines that the craft is a sarcophagus - the sole passenger is a dead alien. A ship message tells us to study the alien and his ship and send him on his way to other worlds. A USA astronaut decides to stay on the alien ship, goes into stasis for 18 years, and returns to earth. He has changed - and so has the earth.

Liked: Stuck with it, well, because it IS a Bova series. Narration and production are fine. No sex, no objectionable language, clean reads.

Not so hot: This is NOT a typical SciFi, rather a platform for the author to voice concerns regarding world politics, religious zealots, climate change, nuclear war...the earth will perish if humans do not change. There have been other books and movies with the same basic theme - The Day the Earth Stood Still, The Man Who Fell to Earth, The Abyss, more. So, it's been done before - and better, IMO.

Disappointed.

This series is about the Cold War and international relations. The sci-fi aspect is ancillary.

Social and Political commentary, not Sci-Fi

Love the continuous intrigue provided by this book. Applies massively to the modern day...Hope that views from characters in this book might fall upon modern day politicians!

Excellent Story!

Loved it. Ben Bova is one of my favorite male authors. And Stefan Rudnicki is my favorite male narrator. How could this novel not be a fabulous read for me? Bova gets a little flighty toward the end, but that is my only (and it is slight) criticism.

Seriously that could have been summed up in three paragraphs. I feel duped. Some of the best novels require long setups. For that reason I got book two and sat through it. At the 8-hour mark I knew I was watching paint dry. I finished, yup, the paint’s dry. That’s all. No epiphany, no cool concepts, just dry paint.

Boring. Went nowhere in 2 books.
