Wait. What do you mean, my dad gave me to you?

I was ready for a fresh start in England, a career with the London Symphony Orchestra. But my father's "underperforming" company is bought out by The Corporation. Suddenly, I'm being told I'm marrying the tall and terrifying Thomas Williams, because dad would rather trade me to keep control of his company. Thomas tells me that it "looks better" to be a married man as his organized crime empire starts a partnership with the Russian Bratva Syndicate.

Really?

I'm a wife. I have a giant diamond ring to prove it... and a husband who can be kind in one moment and scary in the next. And there's car chases, and assassination attempts. There's a body in my cello case! Who has a marriage like this?

But by the time we're in St. Petersburg and surrounded by new friends and old enemies, my gorgeous, terrifying husband might just need me.

The Reluctant Bride is a Dark Mafia Romance with an HEA and no cheating. Please note this book is not for the faint of heart! This is a forced Mafia marriage and darker than my usual work.

I need to preface this review by saying I absolutely HATE virtual voice and this book is the perfect example of why. I think I would have given it 4 or 5 stars had it been a real voice actor, or even better, two narrators. The virtual voice completely ruins the story for me. When I thought about the story, it’s pretty decent, although at some points I wasn’t sure if someone didn’t edit properly or virtual voice wasn’t reading properly. There were quite a few mispronunciations throughout, which were close enough to what it should have been that you can figure it out. There were quite a few steamy scenes in this book that is completely ruined by having a computer narrate. There is nothing that can out do the intonations and feeling a real voice actor can put into a book, which makes romance/erotica so good as an audiobook. If you take the virtual voice out of it, the story itself is relatively well developed with a good plot. There’s enough going on that would keep you engaged and wanting to see how things shake out in the end. Like I said, the story is decent. I lowered my star ratings on story and overall because of virtual voice. Authors…. Please don’t cheap out and use virtual voice, you’ll get more sales and recommendations if you do things the right way and get voice actors to narrate. I have a group of ladies I recommend books to, and I definitely would have recommended it had it not been read by a computer. I would love to listen to the other books this author has, as I checked out her website and they all look really good, but I don’t know if I can sit through another one that I know is decently written but narrated without feelings and emotions.

I had been waiting for a long time for this to come out on audible & I can’t express my disappointment. This was a great book & I enjoyed reading it, sat on the edge of my seat reading it, but it was ruined by the AI. The voice was pleasant but so choppy & disconnect in places I had to re-listen to several chapter paragraphs. If the inflections aren’t right the book just sounds like a really bad mafia tale. There should be some kind of feeling going into a person’s voice when reading about a bride being forced into a marriage. But there was nothing like that in this book. I never could finish listening to it & I read the book 3 times.
