About this listen

Born into the aristocracy in the 1700s, the young Elijah Summerton had felt different ever since he was a child, ... out of place, He’d always felt as if some vital part of himself was forever missing, like a clock without numbers. Perhaps that is why when the village clock-smith would come to attend to caring for the many clocks in the castle he would follow him around fascinated and ask many questions. He found the sound of the clocks ticking moments soothed him, and peeking at the inner workings mesmerized him. Eventually the clockmaker offered to have him as an apprentice. Which was an unusual thing for a young aristocrat to do…but young Duke Elijah has always been unusual.

The youth worked hard, listened and learned over months and years. Eventually the Master Horologist said he had thought him all he could.

And so, the young Duke Elijah retreated to his workshop in the highest tower of his sprawling castle, and spent his many of his days tinkering with his clocks and other mechanical marvels he invented. Gears, springs, and brass fittings littered his workshop as he pursued his passion for the new technologies, in an age where new ideas and inventions were sweeping through 18th century society.

Yes, it was a lonely life, and he longed for someone to share it with him…he longed for love. And so when he was twenty one, he set out to meet a challenge he set out for himself and engineer an end to loneliness. He would make himself a lover…
