"Wardrobe malfunction" doesn't begin to cover it. With a rip louder than the "I dos", Hayley's hideous bile-yellow bridesmaid dress explodes. She's always had enviable curves, but nearly naked wasn't quite the look she'd been going for at her ex's wedding.
She's rushed from the altar under the best man's designer tux jacket. Hayley's expecting a blast of icy disapproval from sexy, sophisticated Niccolò Rossi - his usual reaction to anything she does. What she gets is a kiss that nearly melts what's left of her polyester nightmare gown.
It's impossible on a million levels. Exuberant engineer Hayley and buttoned-up lawyer Nico have never seen eye to eye - but skin to skin? Oh, mio.... So when Nico shows up at her flat on Christmas Day to give her a fabulous gift - himself - Hayley's delighted to do the unwrapping. But it's just a holiday fling. By New Year's Day, she'll come back to her senses... unless Nico's sensual skills tear away all her resolve.

Good plot

I loved everything about this book... except the narrator. I think the narrator would be great reading a murder mystery or maybe a classical drama set in London. My problem is that the narrator sounds like Emma Thompson or Angela Landsbury or some genteel, middle-aged housewife, not the young, vivacious engineer Hayley is supposed to be. Her narration for dark and contained Sicilian Nicco Rossi is also off, although not quite as much... my issue with that narration is it felt like she always had him whispering, as if that’s the only way he’s capable of speaking. The title Ripped, the bare chested cover art, the Bridget Jones Diary type of scenarios, and the smoking sex scenes all cried out for a younger, more energetic narrator, like Carolyn Winter or Rene Raudman. A dual narration using Steve West or Shane East would have made this perfect. I would probably buy the audio book in that case, instead of borrowing it as part of the Audible Escape subscription.
It is a testament to the great writing that, in spite of the narration, I loved the story. It was funny and sexy, and I loved how Hayley could be embarrassed and vulnerable, while at the same time remain a smart and independent woman. I was also impressed that such hot nooky could be written without using explicit or crass words. The only times the F bomb were used were as profanity in the first two chapters... and not even tied to sex. Come to think of it, the use of the F bombs also felt a bit off, but it happened quick in the beginning and the rest of the book is profanity free... except for the “christo!” exclamations from Nicco.
For a short novella, the tempo and level of detail were perfect at 1.3x speed. I will definitely move on to book 2, involving Hayley’s sister Rosie.
Bridget Jones Diary, but smarter and sexier
