This was a quick fun, hot listen. The narrator's voice is very sultry and worked well with the story. I liked that it was a short listen mostly because it was 95% smut. If you're looking for plot and a lot of character development you might want to look elsewhere. If you want a quick sexy read about monsters and omegas, then definitely listen to this.

Wasn't sure how I'd feel about a male narrator, but it still worked out for me. I think Michael Coffman did a good job of bringing this story to life. I forgot how short this first book was (read the book when it first came out), so I was a little surprised when it ended, LOL. Overall, I enjoyed it audio-ly and revisiting this world now that I know it's the same universe as another series I enjoy from this author, makes me view this book in a whole new light!

This erotic romance novella offers a tender, spicy take on the "monster in the cave" trope, centered on a human Omega fleeing the violent Alphas of her village. After seeking refuge during her heat, she discovers Me’lar, a monster whose patience and respect provide a stark contrast to the predatory men of her past. The narrative effectively builds tension through Me’lar’s hesitation to reveal his true form and his refusal to enter her nest without an explicit invitation, establishing a foundation of safety and mutual acceptance. While the chemistry between the leads is clear and the "opposites attract" theme is well-executed, the story is quite minimal in scope. I would have appreciated more extensive world-building and character backstory to facilitate a deeper emotional connection, but it remains a satisfying, high-tension read for those seeking a quick escape.

I really enjoyed this story!!! It was nice and short but long enough to enjoy. Super hot! Quite sweet actually I thought with a HEA. The narrator unfortunately wasn’t my favorite, I felt like he was more grisly doing the narrator voice and the female voice rather than the male voice which came out less growly for some reason despite that he was a monster. There were also a few parts where it seemed like you could hear the audio spliced together. None of this was enough to make me stop listening and I would listen to shutter by this author and narrator together but I thought he could have done a better job.

I read this whole series as they released years ago and loved them. I've excitedly been listening to them all in audio for the first time now. Though I've listened out of order and ironically listened to the first book last. I think I enjoyed the story more when I read it because it was new, but now I definitely love the other books in this series more. Though I agree this is a good place to start as the books are fine as standalones for the most part.

This is my first time listening to Michael Coffman. He did fine giving a voice to the story and characters, but I prefer some of the other narrators of this series more (each has a different narrator).

Overall: 4 stars

This was such a fun, sexy, quick read. A human omega flees her village when her father is killed as her first heat approaches. She hides in a cave system to endure it, but is approached by a monster in the dark. Mel'ar will convince her to accept him as her alpha and mate, but how will she react when she sees his monstrous form? An enjoyable read. I wish it were longer and I want more in this series. Loved it. 5 stars.
