The life and time of a modern day hooker

So this is a thought I have had most of my life. If I was hot enough… felt sexy in my body, I think I would have been a hooker. If you enjoy what you do, it doesn’t feel like work… RIGHT?

Leo has had an awful year. He is diagnosed as bipolar, his husband goes through a mid-life crisis and breaks up with him for a younger man, he’s working at job he hates, and now his best friend is getting married. The last bit shouldn’t be a negative, but she’s rich and he can’t afford to join her on her destination wedding with no money. So when a guy from a hook-up app offers him 50 quid for seggsy time, he takes it. This leads him on an adventure in hooking!

I enjoyed the honesty I felt from Leo. While his life was crumbling, he was trying to fix it. Did he make the best choices? ABSOLUTELY NOT! But he learned from them. I was definitely rooting for him all through the book. I found myself yelling at him to not make a choice that he inevitably did, but I knew it was going to happen anyway. 😂

This is a weird (but perfect) mashup of Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine and Gay Bar… and I LOVED it!

Trigger Warnings: Poverty, alcohol, drugs, sex, orphan, death of a parent, cancer, addiction, violence, sex for money, cursing, therapy, mental health, cheating, STDs, jealousy, suicidal thoughts, depression, mania

Representation: Gay, Mental Health (Bipolar)

All of My Friends Are Rich is a contemporary adult fiction novel about Leo who finds himself in a life he cannot recognize after his divorce. He works at a job he hates, he’s struggling with his Bipolar, and quite literally is poor compared to his rich friends. When his best friend asks him to be her best friend, Leo has to figure out a way to make money fast. Will the lengths Leo goes to to make money ruin his life or help him succeed?

I can’t believe how much I loved this book! While I’m not a gay man in London, I felt Leo was so relatable and I loved reading about another 29 year old! I think this story was incredibly well written and contained a great depth of sarcasm and vulnerability. I loved the spotlight on mental health and how much it can affects one’s life. The author used a very endearing approach when writing Leo’s inner monologue and his morbid thoughts.

Overall, I felt the book was very real and so much more than I was expecting. Leo is real and fully developed and felt like a human that I could encounter. The side characters were also well developed and I loved journeying through Europe with them.

100000% Recommend

This book was pretty darn phenomenal. I am so surprised with how relatable these characters were. I loved Leo so much, even though he was a hot ass mess!!! I think Sara is the friend we all need in our lives!! And Duncan is the most understanding, kindest soul ever written!

The story is simple. Boy is asked to be his best friend’s Best Man. Boy can’t afford the trip and the wedding festivities. So boy turns to sex work in order to pay for the trip/wedding festivities. Meanwhile, boy comes to terms with his mental health disorder that is helping cause these poor life choices.

I loved the writing. It was quick. Smart. And it flowed so nicely. I finished this book in less than 24hours. The audiobook is also really well done. At first, I was hesitant about the narrator, but in the end, he really was perfect for the job.

I highly recommend this book. I will warn you that it’s pretty filthy/smutty. There a numerous extremely detailed sex scenes, so this book is definitely not for the faint of heart. There is also the topic of drug use and medical-related trauma.

I can’t wait to read the children’s book associated with this novel, called The Golden Boy.

The Age Old Profession

The storyline is well written and highly believable. The characters are likeable and realistic and feel more like people you come across everyday. Leo is a serious hot mess but a lot if his issues stem from having mental health problems an at one time or another we can all relate.

The premise is Leo's best mate Sara is getting married but her wedding is a destination wedding in Santorini, Greece and Leo is flat broke and already overdrawn on his account. Leo's job as a retail manager is lack luster and will not afford him the money he needs so he turns to the world's oldest profession to get the money. The story is compelling, funny, and intriguing. If you have a problem with descriptive sexual situations be fair warned this book is loaded with said situations. I highly recommend this book if you can handle the nitty gritty truth of a walk on the wild side. I received this book for free upon my request but it has no bearing on my review that I am voluntarily leaving of my own volition.
