This was a very interesting spin / take on these historical figures and what their ‘day-to-day’ may have looked like. It didn’t really take me back in time, since the characters speak the same way we speak today, and there wasn’t really world-building. What it seemed to do was show a modern take on a moment far in the past.
The blend of both showing and telling is also interesting—the author opts to show in regards to the budding romance/ erotic relationship between the leads, but tell significant moments in history … mixing both showing and telling in regards to how Alexander deals with it all.
There are a lot of steamy scenes, especially relative to plot—some are sorta ‘instructional’ which fits, since one lead has no experience.

I think what I most enjoyed was everyone trying to set him up, and him trying to find excuses to refuse—if I were Alexander, I’d hate it, I’m sure but as the reader, it provided a bit of entertainment.
Overall:
A different writing style … and a blend of history x modern-style of speaking … not quite like anything else I’ve read, with lots of steam mixed in. A decent read that kept me company while I did some work— 3.5 stars.
