Equally engrossing as the third book in this series. War, intrigues, espionage, politics, magic, dragons. I continue have trouble making myself push the stop button.

Stanek continues with the adventure of the characters created in the other books, and continues with his excellence in fantasy story writing. First rate narration continues as well. First rate in all accounts.

After the second book, I was hooked. The multiple character storylines and the personalities make this one of my fastest growing faves.

The story is absorbing. It sweeps you along until you can hardly quit. I have often found myself sitting in the car late for work, the novel running through my speakers.

By far one of the best readers and by far is one of the best audiobooks I have ever listened to.

This is the second book in the series and it is here that I was forever hooked. This one brings the initial story arc together to its dramatic and gripping conclusion. Stanek never lets you forget these are "real" people, with real feelings and real needs.

As to the reader, he is good. More than good - he reads with articulation and passion. What a great combo. Get it, you won't be sorry.

After the Great War that divided the peoples, the kingdoms of men plunged into a Dark Age that lasted 500 years. To heal the lands and restore the light, the great kings decreed that magic and all that is magical, be it creature, man, or device, shall be cleansed to dust. The cleansing raged for so long that no human could recall a time without it and it is in this time that the Dark Lord Sathar returned from the dark beyond.

I read a lot of fantasy and sci-fi, and I can promise you that this series of books is among the best. Be sure to listen to the books in order. This tale takes place in a land known as the "Kingdoms." The history of these kingdoms is expertly blended into the plot, so that you effortlessly become emersed into the world. It feels as if this land, with its people, traditions, and history is as real as our own.

In the audio version, the narrator does a wonderful job of giving voice to the vivid characters. The plot has numerous twists and turns. I gave up trying to predict what would happen, and decided to just enjoy the ride.

If you enjoy fantasy, this is a must read. Even if you usually don't like fantasy, you may very enjoy this one. I sure did.
