His life's work, a grim fantasy titled A Thief of Nightshade encompassed everything Aubrey hated about fairy tales and make-believe. If you liked the Narnia books as a child you'll love this darker story that has the same style, feeling and fantasty elements. The writing is beautiful and sensitive and I was artfully transported to other worlds. The narrator captured the lyricism with her beautiful voice and artful, credible characters and emotion. I'd read this again and recommend it highly.

Where does Alpha One rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Alpha One was thoroughly enjoyable. It's a love story, thriller and mystery all in one. I loved the narration particularly - she is so emotionally in tune with the characters I felt like I was right there with them. I think this is a series and I can't wait to hear the next!

I'm normally not a fan of this genre but I was blown away by this story. The characters were so diverse, rich and vivid and it was both suspenseful and heartbreaking. The narrator was brilliant - she really sensitively brought the characters to life in her lovely rich voice and she was very believable with her british accent. I'm from London so I'm a pretty tough judge of accents. What a fantastic listening experience!
