The Aldens visit Ireland and stay in a beautiful castle that's now a hotel! But the caretaker seems very superstitious, and at night they see a mysterious figure who walks the halls carrying a lantern. Could it be one of the banshees of ancient legend? The Boxcar Children must discover the secret that Duncarraig castle is hiding!
The narration largely ruined this book for us. Having previously listened to a BC book by Phyllis Newman, we probably had super high expectations. The voices are like Sesame Street characters--this is not a compliment! Dreadful, forced, and unbelievable. The story was ok, but might have been better.
The Aldens begin their adventure by making a home in a boxcar. Their goal is to stay together, and in the process they find a grandfather.
The narrator, with her gentle voice and thoughtful internation, made this book exceptional! The story is wholesome, beautiful, and invokes images of an idealistic time. It was wonderful to be swept away to such a happy place!
